"I cant believe how much I've come
to see now that I see you."
-Scarlet Biberstein
"My brother's got a gun. He wants to kill someone.
He wants to kill my other brother,
our Father's other son."
-Kevin Heider
"Foxtrot through the worries and hurries of today. Would you dance with me?"
-Grace Ellen
"I look behind. My past is gone.
My choice can change tomorrow."
"The angels sang 'All men rejoice!' So I comply
and with my voice I sing to you, and
my song is my frankincesne."
"Use your words. Entreat me to pick up my feet and move in the direction that you choose."
"I feel like I'm slipping away. Don't let me slip away."
"I need a vision, a goal, a mission,
courage, faith, ambition."
"What took me so long to see your truth? Why did I run from a safe place to hide?"
"Guardian, lead me on to the great life beyond.
If I should falter, bring me back to
the path of righteousness."
"To laugh, to love, to listen to the dove
who leads this transition."
"I'm crying. I'm helpless. I'm fragile. And I don't know why, but I'm feeling chaotic inside."
"I felt the bullets in the broken walls. I spoke to
St. Peter and he spoke back. I stood on top
of the dust of the throne of a king."
"Let's talk about it and laugh, not sigh, cause to every worry and fear, we'll say 'bye bye.'"
"I can't explain the look that's in your eyes tonight. And as you start to speak, my heart is telling
me that something isn't right."
"What good is love that concedes to hate?"
"He will wipe away every tear from her eyes and there will be no death or mourning."
"I try to control my spinning, spinning mind. I clutch you and I can't hold on tight enough."
"Little child, don't cry. Everything will be just like it never happened. Try to be patient. You'll be
fine. These things they take a little time."
"Even the comfort of a small child or the silence of an empty church seemed useless to touch the
peace she couldn't find within."
"You saw the dirt inside my soul. My evil thoughts were bare to you. When no one thought a
thing was wrong, you knew the truth."
"What I'm trying to make you see is that I like your company. Do you think I could see you again?"
"But to love at all is to be vulnerable. If I love anything, my heart will certainly be wronged and possibly broken. But without love, I am nothing."
"The car is running. We're not moving anywhere. Just sit right here and talk to me awhile."
"When you love someone so much
it forces you to grow."
"Asking for directions never seemed to do much
good in a world of lonely blind men."
"How can I love my neighbor home when
I'm still so blind and alone?"
"I met a man who loved my smile, gave me flowers, and then we talked for hours and hours."
"The tide is calling me as the sun sets in the
distance. The tide is calling me. There's
no telling where I'm going."
"You were the first one. You were the last one.
You were the only one I wanted to find."

About Maybe Penguins Exist Records
(Read this....it's like having a conversation with yourself....)
What is Maybe Penguins Exist Records?
Maybe Penguins Exist Records is a collective of indie-Christian singer/songwriters who aren't bound by any particular style or genre of music. They write whatever and however they want to write and they maintain full creative control over their work.
So you're a Christian label then?
Yes, and we're not afraid to admit it. And all things in moderation, we're also not afraid to write songs about girlfriends, boyfriends, politics, aliens, beer, etc. Our artists' unique and unrestricted styles offer fresh and intelligent approaches, both lyrically and artistically, to the way their stories are told.
You said that your artists "maintain full creative control over their work." What does that mean?
It means exactly that: Our artists are never required to work with producers and will never be force-fed input or advice on what direction to take in their songwriting. They can hire producers or seek out advice if they want to, but they ultimately have the first and final say when it comes to their finished product. This freedom allows our artists to more fully and personally contribute to the human experience.
Okay. So what really makes your artists' music so different?
Well, lyrically speaking, our artists don't believe that a song needs to explicitly mention God, Jesus, or quote Scripture in order to be considered a "Christian" song, and this concept is evident in their work. Our artists consider themselves persevering Christians, and every one of their songs arises from their own personal experiences, reflections, and a worldview that is Christian in every respect. So while God's name may not be explicitly mentioned in a particular song, God Himself is implicitly present in the song in the sense that He played an active role in each of the experiences and reflections that molded or inspired that composition. Kevin Heider's song "In Good Company," for instance, never mentions God and may sound like your average modern love song about pursuing a romantic relationship, but the actual pursuit [on which the song is based] was in fact filled with much prayer, reliance on God for guidance, and a constant trust that His will would be done in the end. Artistically speaking, our artists don't simply want to make more of the same because they know it will sell. They want to create what they want to create, which essentially means abandoning conventional or commercial songwriting for the market's sake and making every original musical creation something wholly personal and yet naturally tangible. While their music may not always seem quite as "sellable" or "marketable" by today's standards, that's why Maybe Penguins Exist Records exists: to help gain notoriety for a select few of this generation's most talented indie-Christian artists, so that the good news of, about, and within their music might one day be treasured the world over.
Interesting.
Isn't it?
Hey, I'm asking the questions here!
My apologies. By all means, proceed.
Thank you. Uh....where was I?
I don't remember. Something about the taste of sushi being okay but the texture is just too strange....?
Hmmm....Ah, yes, I remember! This website doesn't seem to have too much information on each of the artists. Why is that?
MaybePenguinsExist.com is meant to be a central hub or reference point for the artists. If you would like to learn more about one or all of our artists, simply click on "Artists" down below; then click on the image of the artist you'd like to learn more about. Each artist's icon is a link to his or her official website.
The penguin on your home page is quite peculiar. Where did it come from?
If I were feeling coy, I would say "it probably came from Antarctica." But it was actually cropped out of the scanned image of a picture that the founder of Maybe Penguins Exist Records' younger brother (Danny) drew in art class his Junior year of high school.
What's with the name of the label? Why call it "Maybe Penguins Exist Records?" We know that Penguins exist!
The name for the label comes from a profound reflection that founder and contributing artist, Kevin Heider, had on a bus somewhere in Europe in September of 2006. For a more thorough and poetic account of his epic epiphany, read the recollection below the dotted line.....

"Maybe Penguins Exist..."
by Kevin Heider
It was late at night. Our group was traveling from the Shrine of Miraculous Love near Auschwitz, Poland to a 14th century Carthusian monastery in Gaming, Austria, our quarters for a semester spent studying abroad. I had awoken from a brief nap of sorts to find that "March of the Penguins" was just beginning on the little tour bus TV's. Having wanted to see the film for quite some time, I watched intently, quietly intrigued. I had seen penguins in movies, on TV, in magazines, my grandmother's puzzles, and in coloring books, but something was different. Perhaps Europe had aroused my senses, had awakened my soul, had begun challenging me to look at everything differently, to find God in all things.
As I stared at the odd little penguins marching through the ice and snow on screen, I thought to myself: "Why? What purpose do they serve?" I found myself questioning why penguins exist, wondering what, if anything, they've ever contributed to the ecosystem. I tried to place myself in the shoes of the first person to ever traverse to such frigid Antarctic lands and see a real live penguin for the very first time with his own two eyes. What a curious creature it must have seemed! And to have been hidden for so long! Sure, they were probably drawn or written about by obscure, mostly unknown explorers, but until the camera was invented, in many respects penguins remained incognito for God-knows-how-long!
My imagination was racing hither and thither, filled with wonder, joy, the belief that there is a purpose to everything under the sun, and a determined desire to know! All these thoughts flooded my curious mind as Morgan Freeman narrated. So again, I asked: "Why? Why did God create penguins? What purpose do they serve?" And suddenly my mind was quiet, at peace. I thought to myself, with what seemed like perfect clarity, what was for me a revelation, the most joyous and simple of profundities: "Maybe penguins exist for no other reason than to show the vast extent and glory of God's creation."
If you, the reader, find my answer to this "why" a bit naive, incomplete, unfulfilling, or perhaps simply too simplistic, I understand. While I cannot and will not here attempt to prove to you that God exists and that He came down to us in the person of Jesus Christ to save us from ourselves, I believe it to be so. As I continue on my journey to further unfold the mystery of my artistic vocation, I will try my best to expose what is true, good, and beautiful in all I affect. And if, when I find myself at the end of this road, it is revealed to me that all I ever was was for no other reason than to be a witness to the glory of God, I will consider my life a gift and an honor.
Thank you for reading. May God bless us, everyone!

Reviews
On Kevin's To Whom It May Concern:
"A talented first album that will have you eagerly awaiting more." --- Greg Iwinski, editor Lifeteen.com
On Grace's Foxtrot & Fireflies:
"You captured a moment that people can relate to, and the melody was excellent. And for me, that was something extraordinary - to be able to bring me into the little world in which you are singing about, to make me feel as much a part of that moment, that is what good songwriting is about." --- Eddie Jason Coven, Sandi Shaner Promotions' songwriting competition judge and Black Cherry Group Rep.
"...I think one of the things that impressed me most about this cd is the intimacy that comes with it. You literally feel like you're in the living room with Kevin, and I was very impressed with this album...there's just not a lot of albums that make you feel that way, that make you feel like you're almost in the room with the artist. And Kevin does an incredible job of presenting a very pure album, a very stripped album, and one that's definitely not overproduced and one that really illustrates and shows the strength of the melodies and the strength of the music." --- Rob Ayoub, CatholicMusicExpress.com
"This man is to music what Patrick Swayze was to Dirty Dancing... essential, soulful, and utterly captivating." ---Greg Iwinski, editor Lifeteen.com
